What is it about a man in a well pressed suit?  A guy can be moderately attractive wearing a jumper and kickers, some denim jeans, but put him in a suit and he instantly becomes a man.  Visions of a cool and debonair James Bond come to mind.  Of course, it takes the proper suit to make this fantasy a reality.  For instance, the monochrome suit and tie combination; a black sport coat, white dress shirt and black tie are a classic look that never goes wrong.

For 2009/2010, classic tailoring gets modern with a new silhouette.  Just like Balmain inspired shoulders for the ladies, mens suits are being tailored with broad shoulders.  Paired with a slim waist and even slimmer trousers, suits take on a fresh look from classic conventions.

When shopping for the double-breasted suit, opt for one that is cut slim.  The traditional American boxy-style is no longer à la mode.  Instead, a man’s V-shape is highlighted with a slim cut and long lapel extending to the waist.

Or go for the three-piece suit, after all, the waistcoat is back!  A monochromatic colour scheme is the modern way to incorporate the waistcoat into your wardrobe.  Keeping it subtle is key; otherwise you may end up looking like a magician at a fancy dress party.

So, whether you are into the dogtooth, the pinstripe, the herringbone or the simple black suit, don’t ever underestimate: the right tie is essential to completing the look.  A pop of colour, a touch of satin or combination with stripes can add much needed personality.  Feeling frisky?  Sport a red leopard print satin effect tie with an all black ensemble.  A bit more conservative?  Try a royal blue satin effect tie that will add dimension to a charcoal suit while remaining elegant.  If you get a little lost in all the pieces and bits, just think, ‘what would James wear’!
